3. Composition/Information on Ingredients

Product: Potassium Bromate.
CAS No.: 7758-01-2
EINECS EC No.: 231-829-8

4. First Aid Measures

Always get medical attention after the first aid is over.

Inhalation: If inhaled, remove to fresh air. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Get medical attention.
Ingestion:
Do not induce vomiting unless directed to do so by medical personnel. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. If this material are swallowed, call a physician immediately. Loosen tight clothing. Get medical attention.
Skin Contact:
Immediately flush skin with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing and shoes. Get medical attention. Wash clothing before reuse. Thoroughly clean shoes before reuse.
Eye Contact: Check for and remove any contact lenses. In case of contact, immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Get medical attention.

5. Fire Fighting Measures

Fire: Not combustible, but substance is a strong oxidizer and its heat of reaction with reducing agents or combustibles may cause ignition.
Explosion: May explode when shocked, exposed to heat or flame, or by spontaneous chemical reaction. Sealed containers may rupture when heated. Sensitive to mechanical impact.
Fire Extinguishing Media: Dry chemical, carbon dioxide, Halo, water spray, or fog. If water is used, apply from as far a distance as possible. Water spray may be used to keep fire exposed containers cool. Do not allow water runoff to enter sewers or waterways. Use flooding quantities of water as spray. Cool containers with flooding quantities of water until well after fire is out.
Special Information: Wear full protective clothing and breathing equipment for high-intensity fire or potential explosion conditions. This oxidizing material can increase the flammability of adjacent combustible materials.
Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture: Hydrogen bromide gas, Potassium oxides.

6. Accidental Release Measures

Small Spill: Use appropriate tools to put the spilled solid in a convenient waste disposal container.
Large Spill: Oxidizing material. Stop leak if without risk. Avoid contact with a combustible material (wood, paper, oil, clothing...). Avoid dust formation. Avoid breathing vapors, mist or gas. Ensure adequate ventilation. Evacuate personnel to safe areas. Avoid breathing dust. Keep the substance damp using water spray. Do not touch spilled material. Prevent entry into sewers, basements or confined areas; dike if needed. Call for assistance on disposal.

7. Handling and Storage

Keep in a tightly closed container, stored in a cool, dry, ventilated area. Protect against physical damage and moisture. Isolate from any source of heat or ignition. Avoid storage on wood floors. Separate from incompatibles, combustibles, organic or other readily oxidizable materials. Containers may be hazardous when empty since they retain product residues (dust, solids); observe all warnings and precautions listed for the product.
Precautions for safe handling: Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Avoid formation of dust and aerosols. Provide appropriate exhaust ventilation at places where dust is formed. Keep away from sources of ignition - No smoking. Keep away from heat and sources of ignition.

8. Exposure Controls/Personal Protection

Airborne Exposure Limits: TWA 0.1 mg/m3 USA, Workplace Environmental Exposure Levels (WEEL).
Ventilation System: A system of local and/or general exhaust is recommended to keep employee exposures as low as possible. Local exhaust ventilation is generally preferred because it can control the emissions of the contaminant at its source, preventing dispersion of it into the general work area.
Personal Respirators (NIOSH Approved):
For conditions of use where exposure to dust or mist is apparent and engineering controls are not feasible, a particulate respirator (NIOSH type N95 or better filters) may be worn. If oil particles (e.g. lubricants, cutting fluids, glycerin, etc.) are present, use a NIOSH type R or P filter. For emergencies or instances where the exposure levels are not known, use a full-face positive-pressure, air-supplied respirator.
Skin Protection:
Wear impervious protective clothing, including boots, gloves, lab coat, apron or coveralls, as appropriate, to prevent skin contact.
Eye Protection: Use chemical safety goggles and/or full face shield where dusting or splashing of solutions is possible. Maintain eye wash fountain and quick-drench facilities in work area.
